CityParks PuppetMobile, the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City. 

During the 2026 season, the PuppetMobile will present a fresh take on the classic fairytale Pinocchio written by Julia Darden and directed by Bruce Cannon, with set design by Zlata.

Join Friends of McGolrick Park for a Summer Tree ID Walk, 7/11 at 9 AM.

Learn how to spot the clues hiding in plain sight, from bark texture and branching patterns to buds and silhouettes. You’ll leave knowing your London planes from your red buds and seeing the park a little differently for the rest of the season.

This walk will be led by Deborah Davidson, who holds a B.A. in Biological Anthropology and an M.Sc. in Conservation with an emphasis in primate ecology. Throughout her career, she has worked with the University of Oxford Botanic Garden, the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Arcus Foundation, and City Parks Foundation. She also completed an Urban Forest Fellowship at McGolrick Park and currently works in the Education Department at Wave Hill in the Bronx.

All ages welcome.

Forest bathing is a self-care practice that seeks to enhance health holistically by connecting with nature via our senses. It can promote your mood, focus, and balance stress levels. Join Friends of McGolrick alongside NYC Parks Stewardship for a Winter Tree ID Walk.

Without their leaves, trees make you slow down and really look. We’ll learn how to spot the clues hiding in plain sight, from bark texture and branching patterns to buds and silhouettes. You’ll leave knowing your London planes from your red buds and seeing the park a little differently for the rest of the season.

All ages welcome. Dress warm, wear sturdy shoes, and bring your curiosity. Winter is when the trees tell their quiet stories. For more info, please click here!

Winter Tree Care

Join Friends of McGolrick and the NYC Parks Department to use our neighborhood Christmas Tree mulch to care for the park’s trees.

Creating a ring of mulch around the tree base helps support root health by providing nutrients, retaining moisture, and protecting the trees from mowers!

Please meet at the McGolrick Park Farmer’s Market table beginning at 10 am on January 11. Dress suited for gardening!

Recycle your holiday tree by bringing it to McGolrick Park, where NYC Parks will chip it into mulch!

Trees can be dropped off before Mulchfest, beginning on December 26. For more information about drop-off locations throughout the city, visit NYC Parks’ Mulchfest page.

MULCHING IN MCGOLRICK WILL OCCUR ON JAN 10TH! Mulch will be used to perform tree care on Jan 11th. Please drop off trees at the Monitor & Driggs corner prior to the 10th.

Cold Moon: A Winter Solstice Arborist Walk

Join us on December 4 for a nighttime tree walk during the next and last full moon of 2025, also known as the Cold Moon. 

Arborist John Kilcullen of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation will lead a tour around our beautiful park, where he will dive into the history of the park’s amazing trees, including our ash tree, award-winning eastern redbud, and the London plane trees, which make up the park’s beautiful tree canopy.

The tour begins at 5:30pm at the Russell St. and Driggs Ave. entrance, with peak supermoon illumination at approximately 6:14pm, providing the perfect amount of light for our walk.

Our event is free, though we encourage you to RSVP here!

What to Expect

Haunted Strolls & Decor — Explore the park transformed with enchanting Halloween décor from Greenpoint Art Circle.

Trick-or-Treat Stations — Candy, treats, tarot, and other surprises.

Dance Party — Be serenaded (or spooked) by local talent.

Meet neighbors, make memories, and support your local park. Costumes encouraged!

Tips for Attendees
