Family Bird Walk and Scavenger Hunt, and Talking to Trees with Lisa K., June 14, 2026
Birder, educator and Birds Program Manager at Local Nature Lab, Loyan Beausoleil, returned to McGolrick Park for her third time to guide families on a bird walk of our park. During the guided bird walk Loyan explored bird behaviors and shared information on their outdoor habits.
With binoculars provided by Friends of McGolrick, groups of families were to spot a ton of bird species in our park, including the pigeon, house sparrow, European starling, the vocal Gray Catbird, Chimney Swift, American Robin, Morning Dove, and the fluffy Brown Creeper.
Kids also walked away with a pamphlet packed with information for spotting bird species throughout NYC, on their own!
Also happening in the park that day was a special tree meditation event with local resident Lisa K. Lisa K is a Greenpoint-based Tarot reader, psychic channel, and spiritual development teacher.
During her workshop, Lisa K explored personal connections with the amazing trees in our park, beginning with our historic and majestic ash tree. Lisa shared techniques for connecting and communicating with a tree’s energy.
Private support for McGolrick Nature Walks is provided by City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks through the NYC Green Fund.
