To everyone who made our 2025 year possible - you deserve a big thank you!

We envision a clean, vital park where every neighbor has access to nature and to a shared space for community connection. Your involvement this year has made a difference.

With your help, we logged over 8,200 volunteer hours dedicated to McGolrick Park.  Together, our community has made McGolrick cleaner and more vibrant.

Here’s the impact we made together in 2025:

360 lbs

of trash removed

800

plants added to the park

31

community events

McGolrick is cleaner

111 volunteers removed 360 pounds of trash from McGolrick during our eleven park cleanups. Regular maintenance efforts also inspired our community to continue cleaning independently throughout the year.

500 daffodil bulbs were planted in the lawns, and 300 plants were added to the McGolrick Bird Garden this year. We installed 100 feet of fencing to protect the new bird garden, dubbed the “magic bushes” by locals, near the park's center. These plants and shrubs not only make McGolrick beautiful, but also provide essential food sources for our avian visitors.  Our favorite Eastern Redbud was also recognized as one of the new Great Trees of NY.

McGolrick is flourishing

Our community is learning and connecting

Continuing and expanding our free programming enabled hundreds of neighbors to connect in the park throughout the year.  We launched a new series, McGolrick Meditations; purchased additional binoculars for McGolrick Bird Club’s weekly walks; educated the community on subjects such as birds, bees, trees, and composting through five nature walks; and supplied the McGolrick Art Club’s plein air sessions with new supplies.  A new International Children's Day event, along with our third editions of McGolrick Earth Day and McGhoulrick Halloween, allowed our community to celebrate together.

Here’s How we Did it …

We were also excited to coordinate two Movies Under the Stars and Puppetmobile programming in McGolrick.

Thank you to everyone in our community for joining us this year, to the incredible volunteers who powered our events, and to the organizations that partnered with us along the way.

Thanks to the NYC Parks Department staff and the gardeners who care for McGolrick. Your commitment to keeping the park safe, clean, and thriving means so much.

And a heartfelt thank you to our new fiscal sponsor, City Parks Foundation and Partnerships for Parks. Your support and encouragement have been a bright spot this year, and we’re excited to continue building with organizations that bring free, creative programming to more than 350 parks across NYC.

Thank you for supporting McGolrick

In 2025, Friends of McGolrick invested over $6,700 in McGolrick Park.

Our bird gardens are protected, replenished, and signposted.  We brought in experts from the American Museum of Natural History, Conference House Park, Local Nature Lab, Bartlett’s Trees, and Our Temenos; we supported residents sharing their passions and involvement with the community.  Our event participants used new binoculars, art supplies, and meditation journals, all provided at no cost.  More volunteers were able to use reusable buckets and functioning trash pickers.  Our trick-or-treaters demolished 35 pounds of candy.  It was fun, and it was possible because because Friends of McGolrick invests every dollar we raise directly into McGolrick Park.

All of our work is made possible by grants and generous donations. We were honored to be chosen as a two-year recipient of the NYC Green Fund Grassroots Grant, which will support specific programs through the spring of 2027. Donor support remains essential to our mission. If you are able to contribute, you can make a donation through our fiscal sponsor, City Parks Foundation. All donations are fully tax-deductible and will be designated for Friends of McGolrick Park when “for the benefit of McGolrick Park” is included in the comment field.

Looking Forward to 2026

2025 has been a big year for McGolrick Park and we are looking forward to lots more fun together next year.  Friends of McGolrick operates year-round in the park, so keep an eye out for monthly cleanups and bird walks continuing through the winter. McGolrick Art Club, McGolrick Meditations, and McGolrick Nature Walks will all begin again - taking advantage of the warmer weather from Spring through Fall. We want to keep celebrating Earth Day and International Children’s Day as a community and our Fourth Annual McGhoulrick Halloween is sure to be a big one and our first weekend Spooktackular!

We hope you join us for a program or stop by to say hello. We love McGolrick Park, and we love this community! If you have an idea or want to get involved, we are always eager to connect. Email us anytime!
